Thinking Outside the Box...

It's amazing what imaginations kid's have these days and how simple-minded they are. Daniel brought home a large box from work the other day and let the kids play in it and it provided hours of free entertainment! If only all things in life were free and highly entertaining! Anyways, they had lots of fun and Katherine even wrote a note on it to us making sure Mom and Dad knew the rules to the box.

The other day the boys were outside playing, which for some reason doesn't happen often if Katherine's not home. It seems like Matthew is a home-body and would rather stay inside than play outside. But I made them go out and play for at least 15 minutes the other day and decided to snap some pictures while we were out. Matthew loved showing Christopher how to put the letter pieces into the truck and take them out again. He also thought they made some funny "eyes". :) Also, here's a picture of Matthew in the backyard after eating some chocolate...yummmy. I thought his eyes were a really pretty blue in this picture:)

Christopher is getting so big! I can't believe he's almost 17 months old! Here's a picture of him riding Katherine's horse in her room...he loves galloping on it and making the noises go off (every time you rock back and forth it neighs or makes a carnival music). He's been really starting to run well now (me too!) and is so cute to watch. He also responds to our questions by nodding and shaking his head to everything we say and seems to understand what we ask him. He really understands the question "Did you go poo-poo?" and always has a nice nod to give for that one:) He also knows "More", "Please", and "Thank You" in sign language and uses them pretty well. It's so nice to know what he wants/needs (even if it means changing a poopy diaper)!

Katherine has been doing well at school and still seems to enjoy it for the most part. I'm amazed at how different first grade is from Kindergarten and how the expectations are so much higher. But I know Katherine loves to learn and is able to handle those challenges. She told me the other day she got a Warning in class because when she went to the bathroom, she and her friend screamed when the toilet flushed and she got scared (she's been using the restroom and hearing it flush for over a year now!). I think she learned her lesson and was probably having a little too much fun in the bathroom! She's had a lot of fun learning about butterflies in class and watching them grow into butterflies from caterpillars and then letting them go outside once they turned into butterflies. Katherine and Matthew also started Awanas at church on Sundays and love it! I'll have to take some pictures of them in their vests once they both get them! I work at the church while the kids go to Awanas so that's a great way to make a little extra income while the kids learn.

Daniel and I have been doing well. Things are busy for us, but great. I love my daily routine and things seem to flow so much better when I have my morning run and quiet time before the kids get up (at 6:30 am!). But it really seems to make the day go so much better. I just started a Bible Study on Tuesday nights on the Book of John and I work in the childcare up at church on Thursdays, Fridays (1x a month), and Sunday nights. Daniel is doing a Biblical Manhood study on Wed. mornings too (he has to be there at 6 a.m....early!). Overall, we're doing well and God just seems to keep blessing us. We're still working on selling Daniel's Supra (not too hard though) so please pray we can do that soon. Or if you know anyone who needs a cool '82 Supra that still drives great, he's got one to sell!

Old Navy Coupon!!

Wahoo...I don't know if I've ever been more excited about a coupon before! Lately, I've been following a lot of neat money-saving blogs to see if I could cut our grocery budget down from about $1,000 a month and I'm proud to say that I've done that this month and cut it down to $400...more than HALF! That's partially why I haven't posted blogs in a while because this definitely keeps me busy, but I guess is well worth it! I use to just clip a few coupons, head to the store, and be so excited when I'd save $15-20 in one trip. (If you're interested in knowing the money-saving blogs I follow, let me know and I'll forward them to you!) Anyways, OldNavyWeekly.com hides several coupons on there each week (usually reloads on Thursdays) and a big coupon on there is $75 off $100 purchase. I tried last week to get it and even stayed up til 2 a.m. trying, but no luck (I really enjoy the challenge:). Last night, I tried at 8 p.m. and found they reloaded...

Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus...Contemporary style

Yesterday I went to the store for a few things and ended up buying a Nativity set and displayed it in the house. Of course, it wasn't long before the kids found it and started playing with the pieces. Matthew ran around saying "Baby Jesus!...I love you baby Jesus!" and then Katherine wanted to pretend that Christopher was baby Jesus. So a few towels, headbands, and bathrobes later, this is the outcome:) Katherine praying over her newly born baby Jesus- Katherine and baby Jesus so excited and filled with joy- Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus in the stable (yes, with a Christmas tree in the background)- Luke 2:14 "And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth."

A Little Bit of Christmas...

I've had a lot of fun this year decorating for Christmas! Last year we really didn't decorate since we had just moved into our house and weren't even in town long enough to enjoy it. Plus in years past, we've had a 4 foot Christmas tree that was "child-proof". Well this year our tree is definitely not child proof but I guess we took the risk. It's been great watching the kid's faces every morning looking at the tree and turning on the lights and train underneath it. We also figured out that the train calms Christopher down and sometimes puts him to sleep! Last night he was really fussy and after a while we weren't sure what to do. So we just sat down in front of the tree and turned the train on for Matt, and Christopher just watched it go around and round for a while and stopped crying! We'll have to try that again!...maybe we should keep the train out year round! :) Daniel was in the Christmas spirit last night and decided to wrap two presents...
