Mormonism

So a couple weeks ago we had 2 Mormon missionaries come knocking on our door. As usual, I got that "Ohh Mannn" feeling, as in "we don't have time to deal with this right now." But Daniel really felt led to answer the door and talk with them. So he opened the door and chatted with them for a few minutes outside, while the kids and I stayed inside and just continued about our day. Next thing I know, Daniel comes inside with a book of Mormon and tells me that he asked if they could come back next weekend after he has time to read the book of Mormon. At first I was like "You did WHAT!?" but then I got to thinking that I was being very selfish and not having the right attitude. I think I was just not ready to talk to them because I myself didn't know how I would handle questions from them. It made me realize I needed to do some research. So throughout that week I slowly started reading parts of the book of Mormon and started researching about it. Whoah...boy did I not know what I thought I did about Mormonism!

So the following week they came back. Daniel invited them into our house, and of course the first thing they notice and stare at is a big carving above our fireplace made by Daniel's Dad that reads "Romans 10:9- If you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." I could tell by how many times they kept staring at the verse that they knew we weren't going to be their everyday people that they might convert into mormonism. Daniel pulls out his book of Mormon with about 10 sticky notes marking pages he had studied and had questions about. We talked with them for probably 2 hours and just asked lots of questions. It's a very interesting and contradicting religion in itself I must say. At the end of our talk that day, they asked if they could pray with us and gave Daniel the honor of praying since they were in our home. I'm not sure if they were fishing for something by hearing him pray, but at least they were respectful about it.

Well the following Monday I was at the library for the kids story time, and who do I run into? Those Mormon elders of course! I wasn't able to talk with them, but I sure do want to know what they were doing there! Maybe researching the Truth!? Hmm, doubt it, but sure would be cool. Anyways, this past week I've been doing more and more research and have visited a lot of web sites reading about their beliefs. I listened to the Maze of Mormonism online by Walter Martin and it's an awesome tape. It really shows the contradictions in their beliefs and supports it with the Bible.

I must say that by having these two Mormons knock on our door, it has really made me appreciate that I was raised in a Christian home. I can't imagine if I was raised in a Mormon family! I think I would probably just believe in the cult if I grew up in it because first, it sounds so good, and second, I wouldn't want to be ostracized by my family and friends if I left the LDS church! Also through this experience, I have been able to figure out more about what I believe and also really research their religion to just even see if there is any truth to it. It really helps strengthen your faith when you try to figure out if there is any truth to what you believe.

Anyways, they are supposed to come back this weekend, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't show up, since they would have considered us "persecutors" of their faith. We've been told by other ex-mormons that if they feel like you are asking too strong of questions, that they will send more experienced Mormons to your door to answer them and send the other missionaries elsewhere. Bring 'em on! We would appreciate your prayers on this!

Old Navy Coupon!!

Wahoo...I don't know if I've ever been more excited about a coupon before! Lately, I've been following a lot of neat money-saving blogs to see if I could cut our grocery budget down from about $1,000 a month and I'm proud to say that I've done that this month and cut it down to $400...more than HALF! That's partially why I haven't posted blogs in a while because this definitely keeps me busy, but I guess is well worth it! I use to just clip a few coupons, head to the store, and be so excited when I'd save $15-20 in one trip. (If you're interested in knowing the money-saving blogs I follow, let me know and I'll forward them to you!) Anyways, OldNavyWeekly.com hides several coupons on there each week (usually reloads on Thursdays) and a big coupon on there is $75 off $100 purchase. I tried last week to get it and even stayed up til 2 a.m. trying, but no luck (I really enjoy the challenge:). Last night, I tried at 8 p.m. and found they reloaded...
